Quality Attitude- Creates Quality People in the Workplace

Here are some tips on how to have a winning attitude in the workplace that will help to propel you up the corporate ladder.

Have a positive attitude

Nothing works better, in all situations, than having and expressing a positive attitude. Let your enthusiasm for being part of the team and the organization show to everyone you interact with.
Always leave non-work related problems at home.

Dress Professionally

You should never underestimate the importance of dressing professionally, because you’ll never know when you’ll be called out to meet customer, or business partners.

Show your team spirit

You are part of a team and team work together to solve problems and get the job done. Show loyalty to the team and share any recognition you get with the team. After all you would not achieve much anyway without the team’s support.

Know your co-workers name

Nothing is sweeter than to hear the sound of our own name. Knowing one’s name and calling them by their name is one of the utmost show of respect for the person. It would make the new hires have a sense of belonging

Ask questions/ask for help

No one is expected to be know-it-all guy. Especially when you are knew, do not be shy to ask for directions and help.
Two heads are always better than one.
Its better to ask than completing the task the wrong way and wasting time, effort and money.

Take notes

Unless you have a photographic memory, take notes during meetings, interactions, orientations and trainings. Taking notes shows your interest on the subject or activity. Having notes to recall or reference back saves all the arguments if there would be any.

Take the initiative

Don’t just sit and wait for orders or instructions. When you have completed a task go and ask for another task or challenge.
Nothing is more rewarding than to test your leadership skills. Only those that go beyond their scope can know how far they can go.

Be aware

Know the company’s policies. Know the organization. Be aware of the important projects and know how you can contribute.

Work full days

Be punctual. Establish a good attendance record.
Coming early gives you a head start. Perfect attendance shows dependability.
Your superior will lose trust if you have poor attendance and hence big opportunities are missed.

Avoid office politics and gossip

As with any social organization. The workplace if full o rumors and gossip. Your mission is to keep your nose clean of all of it and be sure not to associate too often with the office gossips or risk having your image associated with them.

Listen more than talk

One of the hardest skill to learn for some of us especially extroverts, is that its better to listen than talk. Sometime we are thinking of our rebuttal instead of listening while the other party is talking.
You don’t want to get the reputation to be the office know-it-all guy.
If you have a legitimate contribution, make it, if not just listen.

Track Accomplishments

It’s up to you to track your accomplishments; no one else will do it for you. Tracking your accomplishments is great for many number of reasons- for your personal satisfaction, for raise and promotion and future job hunting.

Show appreciation

Nothing works like kindness and genuine appreciation. So show your appreciation to everyone who helps you achieve your projects or tasks from your co-workers to the receptionist to the human resources folks and even the janitors.

Get and stay organized

If you are one of those super organized people then this is easy for you. Get an organizer or planner and keep on top of all your work. You certainly don’t want to miss a deadline.

Set goals

Set goals for yourself and strive to achieve them. The company may have some set of goals and directions so align yours to these.
Setting goals makes you able to measure your performance.

Keep your boss informed….of everything

Your boss is not a mind reader so keep him/her informed of how you are doing. Just don’t bring your boss every little problem; instead, for minor problems ask for help from co-workers.
In the end your boss is still accountable for whatever you do and decide.

Work ethics makes a person.
One’s reputation speaks for the person.
